Managing my collections is a breeze, but I don't have that many books (only around 200, I organise by genre and inside genres I have a "read" subdirectory and any series I also make a folder for, this works for me, but you could manually have any folder structure you wanted). Koreader is the best application I know for reading ebooks, I guess it might not be for everyone but it does literally everything I need. This allowed me to send books through calibre wirelessly, meaning now I only needed to keep the micro-usb cable only for charging (I'm slowly transitioning all my devices to USB-C). Now, one of the things that gave my Voyage new life was the fact that I could install custom firmware on it and install koreader. ![]() So I questioned if the extra functionality was worth it, and ended up deciding that it wasn't. Also, the battery would definitely not last as long as I'd like given that it's an android e-reader. Although the functionality of the poke3 was nice, the lesser sharpness was truly distracting. Later on I read that the reason for this is the added layers between the e-ink screen and your eye. I got a kobo clara 2e and I'm extremely happy with it, I was previously using a Kindle Voyage (that I've kept since 2014 and it's still in top condition).Īt some point I gave the onyx poke3 a go, but the screen was quite visibly less sharp than my Voyage. What are my options and how do they compare? If something from Amazon, don’t they have less invasive one, maybe with alternative firmware or set of recommended settings to make it less annoying? Something that works with an US based public library. Something that doesn’t try to control what I read. Something that does not force me to use their shop (but allows for it). Something with a straightforward directory structure that doesn't obfuscate things. What are my other options? Something that would easily allow to put my existing books in from any win, Mac, Linux. Probably watches me and tracks my privacy. ![]() Then it gets me on Amazon when I want to get books from my local library. ![]() Then it doesn't search well in non-Amazon content. Now it is relatively more painful to get your existing drm free books in. ![]() and I am sort of more and more unhappy with the whole Amazon ecosystem. So, what e-book reader hardware is around in 2022 and what would you recommend and why? I am aware of kindle and have like 4 in the family.
